Queenstown Activities - Staff Picks for Summer

dart river

DART RIVER JET & FUNYAK SAFARI

I absolutely loved this trip!!! You are picked up in Queenstown and bussed out to Glenorchy (Lord of the Rings territory) where you then jump in a jet boat and head deep into the breath-taking World Heritage, Mt Aspiring National Park for an exhilarating ride. You are then transferred into these inflatable kayaks called ‘Fun Yaks’ where you cruise casually back down the river - you barely have to paddle! Just enjoy the tranquillity and untouched beauty of one on New Zealand’s really special places. Includes a yummy buffet lunch.
Duration 9 hours. Departs Queenstown Daily: 8:00am

FLY/CRUISE/FLY TO MILFORD SOUND

This has to be one of the most amazing things I have ever done! Getting a bird’s eye view of the Southern Alps was just simply stunning. We had a great view of what seemed like endless mountains and glaciers, as well as New Zealand’s largest waterfall Southerland Falls. The one and a half hour cruise was the perfect way to experience the beauty of the fiord. You can either stay nice and warm inside the boat with a hot chocolate, or head on outside on the deck for an up close and personal experience and do some wildlife spotting.

rafting

QUEENSTOWN RAFTING

This is an adrenaline filled adventure; begin with an unforgettable coach trip into Skippers Canyon. Take the winding road up into Skippers Canyon, famous for it's incredible twists and turns, tight corners and exciting cliff edges. A fantastic day rafting on the Shotover or Kawarau River for any skill level from novice to advanced, a truly fun day out. You also get the opportunity to raft the longest commercially rafted rapid. All safety equipment is proved.

Kiwi

KIWI BIRDLIFE PARK

The Kiwi Birdlife Park is a fantastic activity for all the family. Enjoy the sight, sounds and textures of the New Zealand birdlife and bush. See real kiwi and up to twenty other native birds and reptiles, including the tuatara, in the breeding sanctuary. With regular kiwi feeding and conservation shows to enhance the audio tour trip around the 5 acre site, this is a great activity for all ages. Entry contributes towards the breeding programmes the park undertakes for endangered New Zealand birds. Escape the hustle and bustle of town for a little bit of paradise in Queenstown, located at the base of the Gondola.

DOUBTFUL SOUND OVERNIGHT CRUISE

Having just done this trip in October I can thoroughly recommend it! The team at Real Journeys are wonderful and offer a very high level of service.  The food and accommodation was great.  The scenery is simply breath-taking and having the extra time to enjoy it by taking an overnight cruise is the way to go! A highlight was the 45 minutes of kayaking in the afternoon, total serenity.

AJ HACKETT – KAWARAU BUNGY BRIDGE

There are no words to really describe the rush of bungy, however I totally recommend that you discover this for yourself when in Queenstown.  This is the original bungy bridge and was first opened in 1988.  Located only 20 minutes from Queenstown conveniently close to many wonderful wineries within the Gibbston Valley. Perhaps a few glasses of our local Pinot Noir is all you need to give you the courage to experience Bungy!
